Sun to Cheese Tours adults
2nd Wednesday of each month, MAY - OCTOBER

A behind-the-scenes look at dairy farming and cheesemaking! Hear our farmers and cheesemakers explain the process of turning fresh milk into farmhouse cheddar; tour the dairy and cheesemaking facility.

Walk our wonderful trails and read a fall-themed children’s book along the way. Storywalk is a joint project of Montpelier’s Kellogg Hubbard Library and the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrians Coalition, a nonprofit that promotes bicycling, walking and running through education and advocacy. (Check our website in early September for trail site and book title.)

Are you a beginner hawk watcher? Come discover the mysteries of migration and learn some basic hawk identification skills. There’ll be a live bird presentation, too!

Annual Choral Celebration of the Earth: World Peace & Healing special event

Listen to an inspirational blending of choral voices from In Accord, All Souls Interfaith Choir, and the Essex Children’s Choir singing in the cathedral-like Breeding Barn. Amy Seidl will share global warming’s impact upon the 21st century landscape. The barnis unheated; please dress for the weather.

Gather in the gallery at the Art at the Coach Barn Exhibition for poetry readings by two Vermont poets.  Come early to enjoy the exhibition before the reading. Register for one or both evenings.
Julie Cadwallader-Staub, a featured poet on The Writer’s Almanac, will read from her first collection FACE TO FACE. (See “Words Take Wing” program, p.3.)

Shoreline Hike at Shelburne Farms adullts

Join the Lake Champlain Land Trust and Shelburne Farms’ naturalist Matt Kolan on an easy hike to learn more about land use changes along the lake and the importance of protecting shoreline natural areas. We will begin at the Shelburne Farms shoreline protected by a conservation agreement with the Lake Champlain Land Trust and end at Lone Tree Hill. Bring a bag lunch and eat while enjoying a spectacular autumn view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. Space is limited, so register early.

Cheddar is a Verb: Be a Cheesemaker for a Day! adults

A full-day experience in the art and science of cheese. Work side-by-side with our cheesemakers to turn 6,000 lbs of milk into cheddar! Topics include: raw milk cheese, the 8 steps of cheesemaking, and cheese quality and aging. The day includes a home cheesemaking demonstration.

Diane Imrie and Richard Jarmusz, co-authors of COOKING CLOSE TO HOME:  A Year of Seasonal Recipes, return to share more tips for eating in season using the produce typically received in a farm share or grown in a home garden.  The program will include a sampling of fall recipes from the book featuring produce grown in the Farm’s Market Garden. Copies of the book will be for sale at the program.
